## Recipe

- Kind: instructions
- Stage: not set
- Loads: always on
- Works in: Aider
- Needs: file tools, shell
- Bring: aider
- Cost: free
- Model: 14B+
- Tested in: not yet
- Checked: 2026-10-12
- For: coding

## When this is useful
- Aider keeps using the wrong test command or the wrong style.
- You already have an AGENTS.md and Aider ignores it.
- Your local model through Ollama forgets the file halfway through an edit.

## Change it to
- Shared repo: keep the rules in AGENTS.md and make CONVENTIONS.md one line that says "see AGENTS.md"; both in `read:` (the aider row).
- Chat-only: paste the five bullets as your first message in any chat; there is no `read:` outside Aider.
- 7B model: three bullets, each with its example; drop the dependency rule.
- Auto test: add `auto-test: true` and `test-cmd: pytest -q` to `.aider.conf.yml` so the test runs after every edit.

## If your AI needs to look something up
- The config keys: fetch https://aider.chat/docs/config/aider_conf.html and quote the key before using it.

## Put it here

Always on: put it where your tool reads instructions every session:

- Aider: Save as CONVENTIONS.md and add `read: [CONVENTIONS.md]` to .aider.conf.yml, or start with `aider --read CONVENTIONS.md`. Aider does not read AGENTS.md on its own: pass it with --read too. Reload: restart aider. Check it loaded: none documented: ask it to repeat one rule from the file. Source: https://aider.chat/docs/usage/conventions.html (checked 2026-10-12).

## Access

Membership: plans at https://videotomd.com/pricing/, or email then a plan at https://videotomd.com/b/text-aider-conventions/. A member's browser downloads the file there; an AI without that session needs the member to attach it.
